Lauren Conrad at the Style Awards: How to Create Feminine with an Edge

At last night's 6th Annual Style Awards, Lauren contrasted an ultra-feminine look with a rock twist, from her floral bubble dress paired with studded punk pumps to her braided half-up-do and soft curls contrasted with a hot pink lip and black liquid liner, all in honor of her stylist Britt Bardo, to whom she presented the Style Star Award. I am obsessed with mixing things up because overly girlie comes off a little cutesy, while overly punk comes off... well, just that...

To create the look, I first filled in her entire lip with Kissink Lip Tintmarker in Berry Bitten, a lip stain favorite of ours that lasts all night yet isn't dry or flaky. Then I added a coat of Lip Exotics Lip Lacquer Hook Up in Pop for a luscious wet look with a huge color impact. For her cheeks, I applied Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Cheeky, a perfect true pink cream blush, on the apples of her cheeks then dusted above her cheekbones in Twinklebelle (Rose), a shimmery pearlized powder that I also used on her collar bone and shoulders. Finally, to keep all of the emphasis on her winged-out cat eyes (Get In Line Liquid Liner Hook Up in Painted Black), I left her lower lash line undefined, except for a coat of Make It Big Mascara in Raven.

They are basic pumps from ALDO, but her stylist Britt Bardo bought the hardware spikes and had them screwed on!

ooh I have been looking for a blog like this! All about make up! So, I guess you would be the person to ask - I recently got back from Europe, and I was silly enough to NOT buy the new plum lipstick shades that they have. They're like matte, redish/pinkish plum. Do you know what I'm talking about? Do you know anyone who makes a color similar? Does mark.?

Oh! And I've just started a Headband company! I'm calling it Amberie. I would love it if you checked them out. I've posted them on my blog. :)

Gorgeous! Random question though: I have really, really dark circles under my eyes (thanks, Dad, for passes those down to me...) and dry skin as well. What kind of concealer would you most recommend to hide dark circles? I've been using Smashbox stick concealer but it hasn't been doing the greatest job... Thanks!

Amy Nadine said...

Try Mark's Dew Drenched Lip Color in Juicy. It's what I used on Lauren for the MTV Movie Awards (see my post on that look). PS> Your headbands are really pretty!

For dark circles, the best concealer I have found is by Cle de Peau (available at saksfifthavenue.com). It is the industry standard for make-up artists and even though it's expensive, it will last a long time and won't crease.

Amy - can you tell us about what foundation you use on Lauren? Her skin always looks flawless.

Amy, I absolutely LOVE this look here. I think Lauren is gorgeous already, but the makeup you use is perfect for her! I am a makeup artist so I find myself looking at your blog often because I truly admire your work.
(I don't know if you remember but I emailed you a while back about interning with you and you responded with a Rock Band commercial. Unfortunately, I was out of town, but it would have been an honor to work with you.)

Okay, what I love about Lauren in this picture is her pink lips. I've always wanted to try pink lips and I think with her eyes and dress, it's perfect. Also, I adore her "signature" eyeliner look, it definitely works.

Thank you for having a blog and if you ever need an intern, I would love to assist you. Also, if you'd like to take a look at some of my work, my blog is courtneychristina.blogspot.com

always, courtney christina :)
